New Zealand Motorcycle License Process: A Three-Step Guide
Understanding the Requirements and Responsibilities
Obtaining a motorcycle license in New Zealand is a three-step process that grants you progressively higher levels of freedom and responsibility on the road. Each step requires a separate license, with each new license carrying fewer restrictions and more requirements.
Types of Motorcycle Licenses
There are three main types of motorcycle licenses in New Zealand:
Learner License
This license is for beginners and requires completion of a Basic Handling Skills course. It restricts riders to daytime riding and prohibits passengers.
Restricted License
Upgrading to a Restricted License requires passing a practical test. It allows nighttime riding and the ability to carry passengers.
Full License
The final step in the licensing process is the Full License, which lifts all restrictions and grants unlimited riding privileges.
